Leicester housebuilder raises over £50,000 for local Hospital
Davidsons Homes is pleased to announce it has raised a staggering £56,000 for Glenfield Hospital in Leicester. The Leicester-based housebuilder held its very first awards evening on Friday 26 January to celebrate the hard work and efforts of its staff and suppliers, with hopes of raising funds for the Cardiology Ward.
Crowds attended in their hundreds to join the celebrations, with the evening promising a lavish three-course dinner, a prize-giving ceremony, and light entertainment from English writer, broadcaster, actor and former Conservative Member of Parliament, Gyles Brandreth.
It was later revealed that the inspiration behind the event was drawn from a member of the Davidsons Homes’ family, Jason Glover, who suffered a near-fatal heart attack last year. He claims the hospital and the unwavering efforts of the nurses and doctors there simply saved his life.
A total of £28,000 was raised by attendees on the night, through sponsored tables and a series of raffles and games. Towards the end of the night, it was announced that The David Wilson Foundation would be matching that total, bringing the figure to the impressive £56,000 sum.
Commenting on the event, Davidsons Homes’ sales director, Stephanie King, said: “Initially, the aim of our awards evening was to celebrate our staff and suppliers for all their tremendous efforts throughout the year, but we quickly saw an opportunity to utilise the event to also support such an important local cause that is close to all of our hearts. Glenfield Hospital is a local service, which we have all in some way or another relied on or will rely on in the future. Last year, one of our own team members, Jason, was rushed into the ward having suffered a heart attack, and this is just one of the ways we could thank the team at the hospital for their world-class care and attention.
“We understand that, like many hospitals around the country, Glenfield Hospital isn’t getting near enough the support it needs in order to keep on providing such an exceptional service. We hope this £56,000 helps towards making even more cardiology patients’ treatment even more seamless and successful.
“We’d also like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended the event and put their hands in their pockets to support such a fantastic cause. Their kindness will help towards saving hundreds of lives. No doubt, as a company, we’ll continue with our endeavours to support local businesses and charities.”
Dr Ravi Pathmanathan from Glenfield Hospital’s Cardiology Ward utilised the event to explain how the funds will be used in the unit. He explained how, over recent years, Glenfield Hospital has faced threats of closure, raising grave concerns for Leicester residents. The money raised will be used towards the world-class equipment needed to keep the department running.
