Schools & Universities in Leicester

 

The largest primary school in Leicester is Alderman Richard Hallam, a highly regarded institution located close to the Gorse Hill City Farm. The school is known for its calm and friendly atmosphere, and makes a popular choice for outgoing children due to its size.

For teenagers, Leicester hosts the well-known Rushey Mead Academy, an incredibly competitive secondary school providing access to the Duke of Edinburgh Award and extracurricular activities such as dance, drama, and music. The school is particularly popular for its high rate of academic success, with an attractive track record for ambitious students.

Leicester College is a popular choice for school leavers around the city, providing apprenticeship opportunities, professional training, T-levels, GCSE resits, and university level courses. The college has two campuses, Freemen’s Park and Margaret’s Campus, both of which are located on the edge of the city centre.

The University of Leicester is famous for inventing genetic fingerprinting in 1984, alongside its modern provision for Archaeology and Biology. As a result, it’s a very well-regarded institution for studying the sciences, and has a high placement rate for graduates across all subjects. Transport in Leicester

 

Leicester borders the M1 to the west, one of the longest motorways in the UK. Using it, you can reach Sheffield in 1 hour and 20 minutes, Leeds in 1 hour and 45 minutes, and London in 2 hours and 30 minutes. You can also reach the M6 via a 30-minute drive down the M69. Other than its motorways, the city benefits from a network of A-roads leading to neighbouring destinations such as Nottingham, Melton Mowbray, and Market Harborough.

Leicester has two bus stations within the city boundaries: St. Margaret’s and Haymarket. The latter has recently received a large investment for expansion, while St Margaret’s is currently operating 24 bus bays providing services into Birmingham, Loughborough, Coventry, and Hinckley. Buses provide accessible public transport to Leicester’s residential areas as well, with plenty of services running in close proximity to our new builds in Leicester.

Leicester has a 4-platform train station located beside the junction of the A6 and the A594. Trains include regular services into Kettering and Nottingham, while longer journeys are available to Nuneaton, Birmingham, and London. Stansted Airport is 2 hours and 30 minutes away by train.

 

Popular things to do in Leicester

 

Leicester is a wonderful place to live if you’re looking for urban amenities and entertainment. The city has a plethora of activities available to you, including indoor and outdoor events, sports, and day trips.

The city is best known for hosting the National Space Centre, a planetarium and science exhibit showcasing the Blue Streak and Thor Able rockets. Other museums are also available at the Abbey Pumping Station, a Victorian steam and water museum, and the Leicester Museum and Art Gallery, a general museum presenting exhibits of dinosaurs, art, and world history.

Local history is on display throughout the city, showcased by the timber-framed Leicester Guildhall, the Tudor Newarke Houses, and the King Richard III Visitor Centre. Other historic buildings close to Leicester include the ruins of Abbey Church, the 19th-century Clock Tower, and the remnants of the Jewry Wall & Roman Baths.

As for modern amenities, there are plenty of things to do in Leicester for an enjoyable evening out. Tenpin bowling is available at Lane7 Leicester, while Treetop Golf Leicester provides a mini golf course for families. Delta Force Paintball is located just outside the city, while you can play escape rooms at Escape Leicester and Break Free. Children can attend a theme park gym at Ninja Warrior Adventure, a short walk away from the train station.

There are a number of day trips in the area, including Tropical Birdland, an exotic aviary, Twycross Zoo, a conservation zoo with tigers, leopards, and monkeys, and the Gorse Hill City Farm, a small urban zoo with guinea pigs, donkeys, and ducks. The Twinlakes theme park is located a 40-minute drive away from the city, where children can enjoy a number of water slides and rides.
