Carpenter and his wife are first to build new community in Harborough

A Harborough couple were the first to move into a new development at Wellington Place – and are now enjoying watching as a community grows around them.
Jackie and Darren Hooper bought their three-bedroom detached house at Davidsons Homes’ development on the outskirts of Market Harborough, near St Luke’s Hospital.
The local couple moved in on 30th June this year after a long house-hunting process which started in December 2019. Now, three other couples and families have joined the Hoopers at the site.
Jackie said: “We first visited the development at Wellington Place nearly two years ago, just as Davidsons were breaking ground. We knew immediately that the location was ideal for us and our needs, and we really wanted to buy with Davidsons as we just loved their homes.
“Richard our Sales Manager helped us to find the perfect house for us, the Ford, which is a detached home with three really good-sized bedrooms. It’s ideal because the second and third bedrooms are a similar size, so it means that both Darren and I can have our own comfortable study spaces.”
Jackie and Darren, who are both in their mid-50s, have lived in Market Harborough all their lives. They have lived in several houses in the town and have previously always bought ‘project’ houses to renovate and redecorate.
Jackie said: “My husband Darren worked in the carpentry industry, so we always used to buy homes that were a little unloved and needed a lot of work doing to them. This time, we want an easier life!
“The home we’ve bought is perfect for us, as all we’ve needed to do is unpack and enjoy it. Eventually we’d like to use this home as a base while we travel around the country, and it’s ideal for that as it’s so easy to take care of.
“I can’t choose which is my favourite part of the house – I love all of it! We love the layout and have been so impressed with the design. It honestly feels like it was made for us.”
While other buyers are now busy moving into their new homes at Wellington Place, Jackie and Darren are contentedly watching a new community form in a location they love.
Jackie said: “We’re from Market Harborough and we love the town, so we knew we definitely wanted to keep our base here. The location here at Wellington Place is perfect for us – just a short walk into town and surrounded by green open space, with the canal right here for us to enjoy too.
“It feels lovely and rural, but all the home comforts of Harborough are right on our doorstep. And it’s so exciting to be the first people living on a new development. We’re very happy we chose to move here.”
Darren added: “When I first saw a Davidsons development I thought ‘wow’, at last, a modern house builder who has managed to successfully produce aesthetically pleasing houses using classic designs and proportions, with modern materials. I want one.”
