Houlton Rainbows receive pot of gold from Davidsons

The leader of a Rainbows group serving our new housing development in Rugby is celebrating after receiving a £500 donation from Davidsons Homes.

Tracey Nicholls, who lives at our Dollman Meadow development in the new community of Houlton, set up 1st Houlton Rainbows shortly after moving in – and was delighted to be offered £500 to contribute to the group.

The generous donation means that as well as Rainbows being able to enjoy a raft of activities, Tracey can start 1st Houlton Brownies and 1st Houlton Guides for older children in the neighbourhood to enjoy too.

Tracey said: “I asked Davidsons Homes if they would consider donating towards stationery and craft materials and was blown away when they said they’d give us £500.

“Receiving this donation from an on-site builder means as a brand new unit we can host more outings and activities. It allows children from all backgrounds to join Girlguiding – it’s an amazing opportunity for them to grow as a person in a safe environment and learn skills for life.”

Tracey has been a Rainbows leader for five years, having previously run a group at Galley Common. When she knew she was moving to Dollman Meadow last year, she put a shout out on the Houlton Facebook page asking if anyone else might like to join her in setting up a new group.

She was delighted to get replies from three volunteers who have become Rainbows leaders with her.

The group currently has nine girls on roll – meeting on Fridays at St Gabriel’s C of E Academy, which opened at Houlton last year – and has space for up to 20.

Tracey, a school office administrator, lives in Houlton with her husband Andrew and two children Luke (17) and Zara (12).

She said: “I love it here. There are lovely green areas and lots of open space. It’s really lived up to our expectations and we feel it will be our home for life.”

Simon Tyler, Head of Sales for Davidsons Homes South division, said: “We’re so pleased to be able to support the 1st Houlton Rainbows as they get established within the growing community of Houlton. It’s a fantastic place for families here, with a brand new school and large play park on site, so we hope the funds ensure lots more children in the community can get involved.

“It is also great to hear that our donation will not only provide fun activities for the youngest children within Girlguiding locally, but also open up new opportunities for older girls to get involved as well.”

There’s currently a choice of three and four-bedroom homes available to reserve at Dollman Meadow, with a further selection on sale within the second phase at Houlton, Houlton View. Further details are available on the development pages.
