Amateur Lutterworth photographer bags top prize in competition

A 27-year-old Lutterworth man has won the top prize in a local photography competition for his black and white shot of fireworks illuminating St Mary’s Church in the town.

Phil Moore, assistant minister at the church, entered the picture into Davidsons Homes’ photography competition, where the developer asked people to submit photos of what Lutterworth means to them.

The competition was launched via the housebuilder’s Facebook page and lots of local people took the opportunity to submit photos that sum up their town.

Stephanie King, Sales Director for Davidsons Homes, said: “We received so many fantastic entries for our competition that it was genuinely difficult to pick a winner. However, Phil’s atmospheric black and white shot just pipped the others to the post.

“We’d like to congratulate Phil for his beautiful picture and thank him for entering our competition, along with all the other entrants who took the time to enter their photographs of Lutterworth.”

Phil won £100 in vouchers as well as a canvas print of his picture. Davidsons Homes will also be displaying the photograph in pride of place at their Royal Park development marketing suite in Lutterworth.

Belfast-born musician Phil said: “I’ve been a keen amateur photographer for most of my life, ever since I collected old film cameras from car boot sales when I was a child. So winning the competition was a great moment for me and I’m delighted that my picture was chosen for first prize.

“My wife Gill and I moved to Lutterworth three years ago and we love living and working in this strong community where we have been wonderfully welcomed. Our son Elijah was born here nine months ago, so we feel a particularly strong link to the town.”

As the assistant minister for St Mary’s Church, Phil’s duties include running youth clubs at the local college and school, helping to build links between the church and the younger generations in Lutterworth.

Phil said: “Entries for the competition were to be about what Lutterworth means to us, so I knew that I wanted the church to feature in my picture, as it’s such a focal point for me, my family and the wider community too.

“I’d like to say thank you to Davidsons Homes for choosing my entry as the winner and I’m looking forward to meeting the new Lutterworth residents who move into their homes at Royal Park.”

Royal Park will be a development of three to five-bedroom homes with prices currently starting from £285,000.
