Christmas foodbank appeal launched by Davidsons Homes

Ibstock based homebuilder Davidsons has launched a Christmas foodbank appeal across all of its developments in support of The Trussell Trust. The Trust runs a network of over 400 foodbanks, giving emergency food and support to people in crisis across the UK.

The Trust says that thirteen million people live below the poverty line in the UK with individuals going hungry every day for a range of reasons, from benefit delays to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. In the last year the Trust gave away 1,109,309 three day emergency food supplies to people in crisis.

Staff at all Davidsons developments and head office are taking part, and the appeal will be publicised at all of Davidsons developments. The developments will be collecting food until December 17th. Stephanie King, Sales Director at Davidsons Homes said “This is such a good cause. It is dreadful that so many people do not have enough food, and at this time of year it seems particularly wrong, so we want to do what we can to help. We are asking staff, customers and visitors to donate what they can”.

Davidsons will be taking all donations to the Trussell Trust foodbank at Ashby de la Zouch near their Ashby development. Noreen Mewies at the Ashby foodbank said “We are very grateful to Davidsons for organising this appeal on our behalf. This is work we are proud of – but it’s shameful that it is necessary.  We need to ensure that people left desperate, with nowhere to turn, get the support they need. This starts with the food someone receives at a foodbank, alongside a sympathetic ear and cup of tea offered by a volunteer, who will also signpost people to other specialist support if they need it”.
