The bridge which crosses the M1 and links Thorpe Astley and Leicester Forest East with New Lubbesthorpe has been officially opened by Councillor Blake Pain, cabinet member for Leicestershire County Council highways. The bridge provides access to the new development which includes Davidsons ‘Hereswode’ scheme.
The bridge project was a partnership between EFR Drummond – the principal landowners, Leicestershire County Council, the New Lubbesthorpe developers, Blaby District Council, Leicester City Council, Highways England and the Local Enterprise Partnership. It was built by Balfour Beatty and WSP.
Work on the bridge started in 2015, and was completed in November 2016. In addition to providing access to New Lubbesthorpe it will also help reduce congestion and the impact of traffic on Beggars Lane/A47. Following completion of roads on the development side, the bridge is now open to the public.
Stephanie King, Sales and Marketing Director for Davidsons Homes, said: “We’re delighted the bridge is now officially open and hope that prospective buyers will be impressed by the range of homes we are building here at ‘Hereswode’. They have been designed to appeal to a wide range of home buyers. New Lubbesthorpe will become a landmark new community in Leicestershire, and we’re excited to be playing a role in its creation”.
New Lubbesthorpe will feature 4,250 new homes, 75 acres of woodland, 250 acres of open space and parkland, a neighbourhood centre, two primary schools and a secondary school once complete. A business park which could create over 2,500 jobs is also part of the wider plans for the development.
Davidsons ‘Hereswode’ is a development of 3, 4 & 5 bedroom Georgian & Victorian style properties and is situated east of Beggars Lane, New Lubbesthorpe LE3 3NQ. For more information, call 0116 298 4365 or visit: www.davidsonsgroup.co.uk
